Beware of Email Fraud

Small to mid-sized companies are frequently targeted by fraudsters, with email scams being the most common and successful form of attack. Here are a couple of important reminders to protect yourself from common email scams.

  • Always call back on a known number
If you receive a request to send money, call the sender – on a known number – to verify the request. Do not use the telephone number given within the email.

  • Dual Approval
Configure your business banking accounts to require two employees to approve transfers to new payees.

  • Check emails properly before you take action
Things may not always be as they appear. Always review email communications, even from trusted sources. Look for spelling errors and carefully check the sender's email address.

Be especially cautious if emails contain requests for changes to bank account details or usual methods of payment.
